Parents of type 1 diabetic children. How do you get your child to become responsible?
My daughter is 8 and has had diabetes since she was 3. I'm wondering how other parents deal with their kids when they don't tell when their insulin pump comes off in the middle of the night or when they ignore the battery being low at school, or sneaks a snack without giving their selves insulin. It drives me crazy because she acts like she doesn't know that if her glucose goes up two high, she's going to feel really bad ex tummy ache and throwing up She knows how to put her own pump on yet she totally ignores the fact that she's going to feel awful later.Help me out guysThanks Noccie. Her pump usually stays on pretty well but occasionally it will slip off from sweating or her being to rough with it. We have many supplies and snacks sent to her school nurse. I think I'll try the stickers you have reccomended.Thank you Cammie. I Have considered a few of the camps in the past and they are quite expensive but prices won't discourage me . She's very well eduvcated in taking care of herself but it seems to me that she is" non compliant" . I will try to find some type of club in which diabetic children meet often. Maybe seeing other being responsible with their diabetes will encourage her to do the same.
Any good tips on dieting for a type 1 diabetic? ?

Hi I'm a type 1 diabetic and I'm looking to lose weight. I don't have too much to lose because I've always followed a relatively strict diabetic meal plan. However, I'm getting married in a few months and I'd like to lose about twenty pounds.I've been in touch with Jenny Craig, who doesn't work with type 1 diabetics who are on an insulin pump, and they referred me to Lindora medical clinic because they have nurse practitioners and other nurses on staff. I got in touch with them today and they don't deal with type 1 diabetics whatsoever. Most of these weight loss programs do " low carb" or no carb dieting which results in pretty extreme weight loss. Those types of diets for a diabetic can be pretty risky. Are there any " quick fix" diets that are type 1 diabetic friendly? Please, do not post any information or suggestions regarding type 2 diabetics adult onset diabetes diabetes as a result of obesity. This question is specific to type 1 juvenile diabetes insulin dependent diabetes, thanks

What does it mean when a patient becomes fat after knowing that he is type 1 diabetic?
In type 1 diabetes, we know that the patient becomes thin. If he later becomes fat, what does it mean? Is he free from diabetes? or Are the glucose levels normal?

what I eat. I felt terrible one evening and felt like I was having a heart attack. I checked my sugar and meter showed high over 600 I gave 20 unit Humalog, and changed my infusion set. It took over 8 hours of 20 units every hour to get it to 595. It had to be at least 1200 or over. No illness, stress or infection that I know of. Since then, it will spike to 500 for no reason, and suffer severe chest pain. Could the first eposide over 1000 have caused heart damage?
How can I get better at running? (I'm a type 1 Diabetic)?
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 5, I'm 19 now. I have always sucked at running, still do. Back in elementary school I had joint pains one year, and extremely painful muscle spasms the next I would wake up stretch my legs, not even make it out of bed, and be screaming out of pain So, I try to be really careful about my muscles, I have to take muscle relaxers when my muscles hurt too much from working out. The most I can do without reaching that point is walking. Although that does reduce my blood sugar.How can I overcome this?Oh and I don't know how this helps, but I'm a girl.Oh and I've been using an elliptical machine on and off for about 3 years, I havent remained consistent enough with it, but it didn't give me much muscle pain. I've recently shifted to going to a park to walk, but I get around to that about 3 days a week or less
How do I help my Type 1 Diabetic Fiancee lose weight?
My fiancee has been trying to lose weight and to no prevail, her and go for about a 45 to 60min walk run 5 to 6 times a week. She has tried everything, green tea fat burning pills, sensa, everything. I feel helpless and I wish there was something I could do to help her. I think she is the most beautiful woman on the face of the earth but she doesn't believe me when I say it because she lacks self confidence. Her blood sugar levels have been extreme since we first moved out. From being well over 500 to under 30... Freaks me out every time I love her so much. She has recently gotten an insulin pump and that has gone away, she feels 200 and then just the other day 75. Its amazing. She is about 5'6" and if I had to guess she weighs about 170 to 200lbs, She is also 22 years old. She means the world to me and all I want to do is help We are getting married next July.
