Do diabetics have diabetic children?

Moms of diabetic children?
What were the first signs of your child having diabetes? My toddler drinks an insane amount of milk and water every day...She fills her diapers I mean fills within an hour or two. She loves sweets don't they all and she has horrible night terrors when she has chocolate or sweets close to bed time. I'm mostly concerned with her drinking...she always wants a sippy cup I fill it and she drinks it in about a minute and asks for more.help? What kind of testing is involved to find out? No one in our family is diabetic.

What is normal blood sugar level for non diabetic children?

Parents of type 1 diabetic children. How do you get your child to become responsible?
My daughter is 8 and has had diabetes since she was 3. I'm wondering how other parents deal with their kids when they don't tell when their insulin pump comes off in the middle of the night or when they ignore the battery being low at school, or sneaks a snack without giving their selves insulin. It drives me crazy because she acts like she doesn't know that if her glucose goes up two high, she's going to feel really bad ex tummy ache and throwing up She knows how to put her own pump on yet she totally ignores the fact that she's going to feel awful later.Help me out guysThanks Noccie. Her pump usually stays on pretty well but occasionally it will slip off from sweating or her being to rough with it. We have many supplies and snacks sent to her school nurse. I think I'll try the stickers you have reccomended.Thank you Cammie. I Have considered a few of the camps in the past and they are quite expensive but prices won't discourage me . She's very well eduvcated in taking care of herself but it seems to me that she is" non compliant" . I will try to find some type of club in which diabetic children meet often. Maybe seeing other being responsible with their diabetes will encourage her to do the same.

How do I go about getting child care for my diabetic child?
My little one will be in morning Kindergarten in the fall. In the past when I've tried to enroll her in child care but tell them in my message that she's diabetic, otherwise professional agencies will feign incompetence. Boy, the excuses I heard " We've contacted corporate regarding policies but after 3 weeks and several messages on our part, they just won't call us back. We can't take her until we hear from them..." The Americans With Disabilities Act makes it illegal for them to refuse her. But then again, I don't want to leave my kid with someone who has to be forced to take her. So now, after having been a stay at home mom I want to work and have her in after care. I don't know if I should treat it like any other enrollment and then tell them, " by the way, she's diabetic. Here's what she needs..." or what. She does need insulin shots and her blood sugar checked but it's not rocket science. I am perfectly able to show them everything they'd need to do. It's not bad once you get the hang of it. But of course, her safety is 1. I want the people to take this seriously and not blow it off out of laziness or trying to get us to quit.Any suggestions on how to best manage this in light of the fact that people will steer clear of her because she's extra work and they worry about liability even though, legally, they can't refuse her on the basis of her disability ?I definitely see their point but it's illegal for them to refuse her. And for this condition the caregiver does not have to be a nurse. Anybody can learn to check blood sugar and give a sub Q injection. If they have gotten past the 8th grade then they have the intelligence to do this. But she's extra work when they could easily fill up on non diabetic children and relax a bit more. But hey, when they opened their business they were aware of anti discrimination laws. Still, I do sympathize with their fear that's why we are available as a resource and would provide thorough training.
